A Quick Friday update

While there isn't much new to see from the outside of the library, the interior lower level is pretty much gutted now, as well.

One of our "Quiet Zone" signs is still hanging on here, too!  Can you spot it?

A/C on the way!

With the renovation, the Arthur A. Houghton, Jr. Library will get a new heating AND COOLING system.  That's right, folks, by this time next year we will be in air-conditioned comfort for the first time ever!
In preparation for that, the construction crews have removed lots of old ductwork.

And speaking of windows, we are constantly amazed at our new ability to see all the way through the building.  No walls!  No furniture!  No...anything!

Work Progresses

The concrete forms have come off some of the walls, and framing has begun on the other side of the addition.

A quick peek through the windows at the end of the building reveals that when they called this a "gut renovation"...they weren't kidding!

The second interior picture is the space that used to be divided into the Rare Book Room(L201), copier room, a conference room (L203), our teaching/presentation room (L204), and the former reference/computer area (L205).

Relocation #1 Complete

Library staff and services are now located in the Classroom Building, rooms C206 and 205 (the computer lab).  Come visit!

Leaving the Building

Today is the last day library staff will be located the Arthur A. Houghton, Jr. Library!  As of Monday, May 12, staff will be in the Classroom Building, rooms C205 and 206.  There you can find some quiet study space, computers, textbooks on reserve for summer classes, and a small circulating collection of popular fiction.

Along with staff relocation, several portraits from the Library have had to find new homes.

First, our benefactor Mr. Houghton, who hung behind our circulation desk, and Walter Smith, a long-time professor in the Humanities Department (to the left in the picture below).

Arthur is now located in President Douglas' office area.

Walter has found a home on the 3rd floor of the Nursing Building, in the Social Sciences Division.

A portrait of Frederick Parsons, one of CCC's first trustees, used to hang in the library stairwell (unfortunately, we did not get a picture).  He has been moved to the Administration Building - quite appropriately, since it is actually named the PARSONS Administration Building!

Finally, the presidential portraits were moved to the Elmira Center.  The 5 presidents are housed temporarily around the 3rd floor archways.
